CUT YOURSELF SHAVING? HERE ARE FOUR LIFE HACKS FOR WHEN YOU HACK YOUR FACE.
It’s an all too common scenario. You’re in a hurry – maybe on your way to a date, meeting, job interview, or someplace where you want to make a good impression. You hop out of the shower. The clock on the wall tells you that you’ve got ten minutes to leave the house. You’re at the mirror shaving, and ----- DAMN!
All of a sudden, your sink looks like the third reel of a Quentin Tarantino movie, or worse yet, your own home version ofSweeney Todd. You’ve cut yourself and the bleeding looks like it will never stop. Now what do you do?
The first thing you’re going to want to do is wash your hands with soap and water. Next, you’ll want to make a phone call to whomever you’re on your way to meet to say that you’re going to be a little late. Bleeding from a shaving cut can be managed, but it’s going to take some time.
Before we go into precautions and remedies, let’s discuss why it is that you bleed so much when you cut yourself shaving. Minor shaving cuts bleed more heavily because there are more blood vessels on the face and scalp area that are close the surface of the skin. Also, you’ve cut yourself with a razor. If that razor is new, you’ve got a clean cut which make it more difficult for your platelets to coagulate and seal that fresh wound.
Gross, huh? Not as gross as that cut on your face. Time to get to work.
Now the best thing to stop shaving cuts is a good old-fashioned two dollar from Rite Aid styptic pencil. But chances are, you don’t have one. “Oh shit!” you say. “Is it toilet paper square time?’ Not so fast, we’ll get to that later. You’ve just hacked your face. Here are four life hacks to help stop the bleeding. Most of what you’ll need is probably within arm’s reach in or near your medicine cabinet.
1 – DEODORANT - Did you know that the aluminum chloride found in most antiperspirants is the same active ingredient in a styptic pencil? In your armpits, this ingredient shrinks your sweat glands. On your face, it can constrict blood vessels and help clot that fresh cut.
2 – MOUTHWASH – Most mouthwashes contain alcohol. Alcohol is an astringent which slows the blood flow by causing your skin tissue to tighten. Just put a little on a cotton ball and dab it on the wound. It may sting, but it will be minty fresh.
3 – VISINE – Eyedrops like Visine work to get the red out of your eyes by constricting the blood vessels in your eyes. It can do the same to the capillaries on your skin. Just dab it on the wound and let it work its magic. Oh, and while you’re at it, Visine can also be patted under your eyes to make those dark circles less noticeable.
4 – LIP BALM – The petroleum jelly used in most lip balms has a waxy texture that seals the skin and helps force the blood in the wound to clot over. This is particularly good for preventing big cuts from forming bigger scabs.
Now, you could buy men's grooming products online or it’s tiny toilet paper square time. Yeah, we know this sucks, but if you stopped the bleeding properly, it won’t be on your face for too long.
Next time when you’re shaving, take your time. And always change your blades out at least once a week. . If your searching for the best grooming products for men, then search no more. #artisanbarber
