Meet Kris: A Native New Yorker with a Passion for People and Precision

ย By Artisan Barber Team

At Artisan Barber, we believe every cut tells a storyโ€”and Kris, one of our standout barbers, brings two decades of experience, personality, and genuine care into every appointment. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Richmond Hill, Queens, Kris is as New York as it gets. Her roots run deep, and so does her love for the city that shaped her. โ€œI grew up playing with kids from all over the world,โ€ she says. โ€œI learned so much about different cultures just by hanging outโ€”and eating!โ€”with my friends.โ€

Though Kris has been a licensed cosmetologist for over 20 years, her journey into barbering didnโ€™t truly begin until six years ago. โ€œI took a class and instantly fell in love,โ€ she says. Since then, sheโ€™s honed her skills and become a trusted figure behind the chairโ€”especially known for her scissor work and her intuitive approach to curly hair. โ€œI have curly hair myself,โ€ Kris explains. โ€œAnd Iโ€™ve been on the receiving end of bad haircuts, so I know how important it is to really understand texture.โ€

For Kris, the most rewarding part of the job isnโ€™t just the haircutโ€”itโ€™s the community. โ€œI love building relationships with my clients and coworkers,โ€ she says. โ€œEven if someone isnโ€™t in my chair, just seeing people walk out happy makes my day. It never feels like a โ€˜job.โ€™โ€

Krisโ€™s approach is all about personalization. โ€œItโ€™s usually a scissor cut, no matter the length. I tailor each one to the client.โ€ She takes pride in making sure every person leaves feeling seen and confident.

Outside of the shop, Kris is always on the lookout for a great mealโ€”especially if itโ€™s a client recommendation. โ€œTrying new restaurants makes for great conversation,โ€ she laughs. Itโ€™s just another way she connects with people, making every interaction more meaningful.

When asked about current trends, Kris doesnโ€™t hold back. โ€œIโ€™m not sure I want the fauxhawk to come backโ€”but Iโ€™m definitely over the mullet,โ€ she says with a grin. As for client stories? โ€œLetโ€™s just say my clippers have an NDA.โ€

Kris brings heart, humor, and serious skill to Artisan Barber. Whether youโ€™ve got curls, waves, or straight strands, sheโ€™s all about giving you a cut that fits your styleโ€”and your story. Book with her for a classic NYC experience thatโ€™s anything but ordinary.
