Hailing from the Bronx, Cathy is a seasoned stylist with an incredible 40 years of experience. She’s lived near Pelham Bay her entire life, embracing the vibrancy of her neighborhood while staying close to her roots.
Cathy’s journey as a stylist began at just 14 years old when she started cutting hair while still in high school. What began as a hobby quickly became a lifelong career. Now, decades later, she’s approaching her 70th birthday next August with the same passion she had on day one.
"My clients are mostly kids, especially special needs kids," Cathy shares. "It’s most rewarding when they want to come back. Some of my clients, I cut their hair as kids, and now I’m cutting their kids' hair.” This multigenerational connection is a testament to the trust and care Cathy puts into her work.
Cathy is the only barber at Artisan who specializes in children’s haircuts. Her calm demeanor and years of experience make her uniquely suited to working with even the most hesitant little ones. She recalls one particularly memorable experience: a pair of mischievous twins who had cut off half of each other’s hair just before a wedding. Cathy worked her magic, styling the intact sides and ensuring they looked flawless for photos. "The mom was so relieved," she laughs, showcasing her ability to turn tricky situations into happy memories.
When she’s not behind the chair, Cathy loves indulging in two quintessential New York pastimes—shopping and dining out. A fan of long hair with intricate braids, Cathy also has a soft spot for retro styles. She’s hoping shag haircuts like Farrah Fawcett’s make a comeback but admits she wouldn’t mind seeing fewer mullets on the streets.
Cathy joined Artisan Barber a year ago after the shop she worked at for 28 years closed due to the pandemic.
